Glastonbury - Sciences Futures Area
Waves of Change took part in the Science Futures Area at Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts in 2022. We offered festivalgoers a taste of our animation-making process, but because there is no electricity in Glastonbury’s Science Futures, we used a praxinoscope: an animation device first created in the 19th century! It consists of a spinning cylinder with a mirror inside, and a strip of paper showing twelve frames for animation. As the cylinder spins, the mirrors in the centre reveal the images in motion, creating an electricity-free animation. Here are some of the animations created by Glastonbury festivalgoers, showing scenes of everyday life and imagined futures.
